How your donations are used

Thank you for your supporting the Herb Brooks Foundation. Your generosity has helped our organization in the following ways:

  1. Build and maintain the Herb Brooks Rink and Training Center, a 17,000 square-foot, off-ice training facility at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, Minnesota. The training center trains over 3,000 skaters per year from around the metropolitan area and has also served as “home base” for several of the U.S National teams, including past women’s Olympic hockey teams.
  2. Provide limited hockey related scholarships.
  3. Conduct field hockey programs at 10 different elementary school sites in Minneapolis. This is an ongoing and growing program. The Herb Brooks Foundation provides the coaches and equipment with no cost to the players.
  4. In partnership with the Minnesota State High School League, the foundation provides scholarships and recognition to four outstanding high school hockey players as the recipients of the "Herb Brooks Award." This program, begun in 2004, is one of the most prestigious awards in Minnesota high school hockey.
  5. Provide for the Rink Rats learn-to-skate/learn-hockey programs at 14 sites in Minneapolis and St. Paul for both boys and girls ages 8-12 years old at no cost to the skaters. The Foundation provides transportation (when needed in Minneapolis), coaches, sticks, helmets and skates to all that need them.
  1. Conduct hockey clinics for young players at Highland and Harding Arenas in St. Paul during the spring of 2016. The Herb Brooks Foundation provides the coaches and equipment for those that need it. There is no charge to the players.
  2. Conduct multi-session Spring Clinic programs at Parade Ice Gardens and Vadnais Heights Sports Center. The Herb Brooks Foundation provides the coaches and equipment for all that need it. There is no charge to the skaters.
  3. Work with Let’s Play Hockey in selecting the NCAA Division I Mike Richter Goalie Award recipient. This award started in 2014 and continues today.
  4. Select and recognize the Minnesota Youth Hockey Hall of Fame winner annually. This award recognizes people that have made a significant impact in youth hockey that contributes to the Foundation's mission to grow the game of hockey.
  5. Partner with several organizations in collecting, sorting and distributing used hockey equipment to hundreds of families each fall.
  6. Take youth groups on selected field trips.
