The Herb Brooks Foundation (HBF) hosted its second STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Science of Hockey field trip on Thursday, Oct. 31 at the National Sports Center (NSC). Over 80 elementary school students and eight teachers from Lucy Laney at Cleveland Park Community School attended the event.

The day began in the NSC Sports Expo, where students practiced moving pucks across the gymnasium floor and focused on the ways friction impacts various moving objects across different surfaces.

Shortly after, all of the students hustled over to the Super Rink to test out the impact of friction on ice. They put on helmets and skates, and took to the ice, for some, for the first time.

Students enjoyed learning how to ice skate and play hockey from seasoned skaters and players who work for the HBF, NSC or who volunteered at the event.
