15th Annual Herb Brooks Foundation Golf Classic Wrap Up

By HBF Staff, 07/30/21, 4:00PM CDT

The 15th Annual Herb Brooks Celebrity Golf Classic is now in the books. Victory Links Golf Course, on the campus of the National Sports Center in Blaine, hosted the event and the golf course was excellent tournament-ready condition.

This event takes place every year to raise funds for the Herb Brooks Foundation (HBF) to sustain and expand upon its youth outreach programs in under-represented communities.  These HBF-sponsored programs are all offered free of charge to students who attend.

Under bright and sunny skies with hot and humid conditions, over 120 golfers supported the HBF cause of “growing the game for kids”. The “shamble” format produced many low scores with lots of high-quality shots by the players.

The day started with check-in at the clubhouse. The players received goody bags and a box lunch to get them started. Players were also able to warm up at the RJM Construction Driving Range.

A moment of silence was observed prior to the shotgun start at 11am to honor and pay tribute to the Motzko and Schuneman families who tragically lost their sons in an automobile accident over the weekend.

Special thanks to the many sponsors who worked the holes and donated items for the golfers. See below for the entire list of sponsors, donors and supporters.

After the golf competition, everyone met at the Securian Grill on the Hill for a wonderful meal and the awards ceremony where The Strelow Family (Tom & Rick Strelow) were honored as the recipients of the 2021 Herb Brooks Youth Hall of Fame Award.  The induction speeches were made by Dan Brooks and Jim Boo. See photo below.

This year’s “Worky” Scholarship Award winners were recognized and a photo of Eric Workman and the winners Aubrey Keenan and Devin Lay is below.

The HBF wants to thank everyone who participated in this year’s event. Let's continue growing the game for kids, as inspired by the legacy of Herb Brooks.
