This past weekend, the Herb Brooks Foundation partnered with the Lakeford Starwhals/Shooting Stars to co-host the “Girls Try Hockey for Free” event. On Friday, from 6:40pm-7:40pm and Saturday, from 11:00am-12:00pm, girls aged four to ten took the ice at Pleasant Arena in St. Paul to gain experience in youth hockey.

Over 60 girls participated during the two day event, receiving guidance from coaches and players of the Starwhals/Shooting Stars on the fundamentals of hockey. The Herb Brooks Foundation was also able to provide jerseys, skates, sticks, helmets, gloves, elbow pads, and shin pads to those in need of equipment.

With an exciting turnout, the future and growth of women’s hockey in the Twin Cities looks promising.
