Funds needed to keep the inner-city youth hockey program alive

The Herb Brooks Foundation has now served more than 2,000 inner-city kids in the Rink Rat program, beginning in 2009. In order to keep it going, we need your help.

The Rink Rat program allows children to learn how to skate, play boot/ice hockey, develop social skills and learn life lessons from positive role models in the local community. Most of these kids have not had this opportunity and most will never compete on a future Olympic team – but all of these young children want to experience the greatest game on earth, even if it’s just at a beginner’s level.

“Great moments are born from great opportunity.” And that’s what you have here: An opportunity to provide these children a place to have fun, learn the game and develop friendships – all at little or no cost to the kids.

For $75 you can provide the opportunity for a child to have this experience. Help two children participate in the Rink Rat program for $150. Make it a hat trick for $225 to put three inner-city kids through this special opportunity -- or even 10 kids for $750! Any and all contributions make a difference.

The Rink Rat program, held in conjunction with Minneapolis Community Education Programs and Minneapolis Public Schools, is dedicated to providing inner-city children the chance to play, learn and love the game of hockey at no cost. The kids are led by coaches from FHIT (Flexx Hockey Institute of Training), which is based out of the Herb Brooks Training Center inside the National Sports Center in Blaine.

All necessary equipment and supplies are furnished by the Herb Brooks Foundation, volunteers and program supporters. Morrie’s Automotive Group is the primary sponsor of the program.
