SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Wild today announced registration is open for the fifth annual Minnesota Wild Breakaway 10K/5K/1-Mile Run. Celebrating the start of the 2018-19 NHL season, the run will take place on Saturday, Sept. 15 in Saint Paul beginning at 8:30 a.m. All races will begin and end near the statue of legendary Minnesota hockey icon, Herb Brooks, located outside Herbie’s On The Park. Proceeds from the Minnesota Wild Breakaway 10K/5K/1-Mile Run will benefit the Herb Brooks Foundation.
This year’s participants will receive a limited edition Herb Brooks bobblehead, commemorating Herb’s legendary pose following Team USA’s historic Miracle On Ice victory in 1980.
The course will take runners across the river, through Harriet Island Regional Park, and then return across the Wabasha Street Bridge. The bridge will serve as the new location for the “Herbie’s Hill,” contest for racers participating in the 5K or 10K runs. Herbie’s On The Park gift cards will be awarded for the top male and female runners with the fastest splits in each distance from the bottom to the top of the bridge between the south and north banks of the Mississippi River.
Racers can register for the Wild Breakaway Run online at wild.com/breakaway. Participants who register before June 24 receive the largest discount on entry fees. Fees will increase on June 25, August 20 and on the day of the race, so racers are encouraged to sign up early.
The top three male and female finishers at each distance will receive two lower-level tickets to a 2018-19 regular season Wild game to be announced. The first-place male and female finishers at each distance will also receive a 2017-18 team-signed hockey stick. Awards will also be given to the top male and female Wild Season Ticket Holders in each race.
All participants who register by Sunday, Aug. 19 will be guaranteed a Wild Breakaway t-shirt in the size of their choice. All runners are qualified to win two tickets in a suite for the Minnesota Wild vs. Dallas Stars preseason game on Thursday, Sept. 20. Fifteen winners will be randomly selected. All race finishers are eligible to win a 2017-18 team-signed stick.
