Stanley Cup visits Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis

The Herb Brooks Foundation hosted a special event for children who participate in youth hockey in Minneapolis so they could see one of the most coveted trophies in all of sports - The Stanley Cup!

This past Saturday, July 21st, the Herb Brooks Foundation was invited to Powderhorn Park to see the Stanley Cup and meet Brian MacLellan, general manager of the Washington Capitals. As a part of his day with the Cup, MacLellan offered to have a community event to share his experience with local hockey groups. Other groups in attendance included the Hendrickson Foundation, the DinoMights hockey program, Minneapolis Park Board Hockey, the Minneapolis High School hockey teams, and the Minneapolis Fire Department.

Attendees and their families were able see the Cup, touch it, and take pictures. In addition, the DinoMights hosted a street hockey tournament and Dan Brooks, Herb Brooks' son, brought Herb's 1980 Olympic Gold Medal to the park.

The Herb Brooks Foundation would like to thank Powderhorn Park for hosting this event, as well as the other groups in attendance. The event was a huge success and we are very grateful to have had this opportunity.
