The Herb Brooks Foundation runs and supports numerous programs in the state of Minnesota and beyond.
Rink Rats
This program is run in conjunction with Minneapolis Public Schools, the Minneapolis Police Activities League and Minneapolis Parks and Rec. The program is designed to give inner city children the chance to play hockey after school on outdoor rinks. The HBF Rink Rats program will introduce participants to skating and hockey in a safe and fun environment under the direction of professional HBF coaches. The program is designed to give children the opportunity to learn the basic skills of skating and beginning hockey at local outdoor rinks before/after school.
Hockey Clinics
The Herb Brooks Foundation, in conjunction with the MN Wild, Minneapolis & St. Paul Police Activities League, conducts Hockey Clinics in both Minneapolis and Saint Paul in the winter, spring, and summer. In addition, we will be hosting clinics in St. Cloud at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center starting in 2021.
HBF "Science of Hockey" Field Trips
The National Sports Center and the Herb Brooks Foundation are sponsoring a new field trip experience exploring the science of hockey. The kids will having the opportunity to learn about Herb Brooks, the science of hockey, and learn to skate. This field trip will be no cost to the school. The HBF provides transportation, equipment, ice time, lunch, coaches, STEM curriculum, and a tshirt.
Herb Brooks Golf Classic
Don’t miss the opportunity to celebrate the life and accomplishments of Coach Brooks as well as meet some of the biggest names in hockey, all while have a great time at the annual Herb Brooks Golf Classic!
Herb Brooks Holiday Classic
For 18 years this tournament has been the Schwan Cup. The name has been changed to reflect the partnership between the National Sports Center and the Herb Brooks Foundation to honor Minnesota’s hockey icon, Coach Herb Brooks.
Herb Brooks Award
The Herb Brooks award is to be given to the most qualified hockey players in the state tournament who strongly represents the values, characteristics, and traits that defined Herb Brooks. This prestigious award will commemorate the unending influence Herb Brooks had on the sport of hockey in Minnesota and throughout the world.
Youth Hockey Hall of Fame
The Herb Brooks Foundation has established an Internet-based, Minnesota Youth Hockey Hall of Fame. Individuals—folks highly devoted to youth hockey development—are nominated and inducted into the Hall at the annual awards celebration. Organizations are eligible, too.
Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Scholarship Fund is to grow the game of hockey by providing financial assistance to players and teams for the advancement of individual and team skills.
